After more than a year since its announcement, Netflix is finally ready to roll with its first commissioned series, House of Cards.
Announced in early 2011, Netflix outbid multiple cable networks to win the exclusive rights to House of Cards produced by David Fincher and Kevin Spacey. Based on a British series of the same name, the series follows Rep. Francis Underwood (Spacey) and his wife Claire (Robin Wright), who will do whatever it takes to win the positions of power they so desire.
While this isn’t the first original content series to appear on Netflix, this is the first that was commissioned specifically for them. The deal is said to have cost over $100 million and guarantees a second season for a total of 26 episodes. The first season will launch all 13 episodes on Feb. 1, 2013.
