When Research in Motion launches its much-anticipated BlackBerry 10 platform early next year, it will include the latest edition to BlackBerry Messenger (BBM), version 7.0. In addition to traditional text messaging, the update will allow BlackBerry users to enjoy free voice calls over Wi-Fi.
Just as BBM has provided users with a great way to save their traditional text message allowance, the new feature is likely to have a good impact on voice minutes, too — provided you’re regularly connected to a Wi-Fi hotspot, of course. It’ll be a welcome addition to those who take their BlackBerry devices out of the country, because it means they can avoid those expensive international fees.
And just like traditional voice calls, BBM’s voice service will allow you to use speakerphone and Bluetooth headsets, so that you can continue to multitask within other apps.
If you have a BlackBerry handset running BlackBerry 6 or BlackBerry 7, you don’t need to wait until BB10 launches to try it out. The BBM 7 open beta starts today, so you can download the new app and try it out right away. Simply visit the BlackBerry Beta Zone and login with your BlackBerry ID.
Have you used BBM 7 yet?
