I love Foursquare, especially living in New York City. Its Explore feature allows me to quickly find restaurants I’ve never been to before, too. Now, Foursquare has updated its iOS application with enhancements to Explore that should make it better than ever. Here’s what the site explains is new:

“Now when you’re searching fro somewhere to go in Explore, you’ll see a score next to the name of a place. It’s our way to give you a quick sense of how much people love it,” the company said. “Instead of other sites where everything gets 3.5 stars, we come up with our scores using the same Foursquare magic that powers Explore. We look at signals like tips, likes, dislikes, popularity, and nearly 3 billion check-ins from over 25 million people worldwide. Open up the app today and find some new places to try.”

It sounds like the company is trying to go after companies such as Yelp and Zagat, both of which also offer “scores” and opinions based on the people who visit. Oddly, I’m not seeing scores for the places around me just yet, so I guess it’s something I’ll begin to see over time.

The update is free and is available from the iTunes App Store now.
