Apple is reportedly preparing to give Siri the ability to purchase movie tickets in iOS 6.1. According to anonymous beta testers, the company is going to add the functionality through Fandango — users simply tell Siri which tickets to buy, which are then presumably added to Passbook. Simple.
There are a series of commands one can issue Siri — “Three tickets to see Brave,” “Buy four tickets to see Toy Story 3 tonight in San Jose” — that then brings up showtimes and theater information; the new feature sounds a lot like how Apple handles reservations through OpenTable.
As of now, Siri’s newfound ability will be exclusive to the U.S., and the feature is apparently not compatible with all theaters. “Compatible theaters listed by Siri are accompanied by a small movie tickets icon,” 9to5Mac said. Apple’s iOS 6.1 was recently seeded to developers, so hopefully we’ll see the update roll out soon.
