It was just a couple months back when the man behind Deadly Premonition hinted at a Director’s Cut, and the man known as Swery has made good on his promise.
The release, scheduled for Q1 of 2013, will come with updated HD visuals, a new control system, and a new scenario from Swery himself, along with planned DLC.
According to the press release, Deadly Premonition currently holds the Guinness World Record for “Most Critically Polarizing Survival-Horror Game.” I don’t expect this director’s cut to change that, but the updates should certainly make some of the main hurdles easier for curious gamers to overcome. No price was announced in the press release, but it’s unlikely the Director’s Cut will stray far from the original $20 US price tag.
When Deadly Premonition hit the shelves in Spring 2010, it was a huge surprise, easily one of the biggest of the year. I literally bought it to make fun of it. By the end, I had fallen in love unironically with the cast of characters, especially Special Agent Francis York Morgan (Call him York, that’s what everyone calls him). As a huge fan of the original, I’m excited to see what changes are coming and to hopefully recommend it without reservation to my friends.
