Apple is largely expected to announce the iPad mini this month, although we’re still not sure exactly on what day the company is going to announced its newest iOS device.
A source speaking with Fortune say that press should receive invitations to Apple’s special event on Oct. 10 and that the tablet will be unveiled Oct. 17. The source sounds pretty confident in the dates, but Fortune is still dubbing them a rumor at this point.
If Apple announces the tablet in mid-October and launches it in November, the device no doubt compete against Amazons’s new Kindle Fire HD and Barnes & Noble’s Nook HD and Nook HD+ products this holiday season. The latest rumors suggest the iPad mini will have a 7.85-inch screen, a Lightning dock connector, a thin design and a price point in the $350 range.
