Seriously? HP CEO Says Company Has “To Ultimately Offer a Smartphone”

By | 7

Oh HP, you really are a silly company to watch sometimes. If you remember, HP bought Palm and then famously killed all of its Pre devices running the webOS operating system. Now, HP says it has to get back into the smartphone game. CEO Meg Whitman recently sat down in an interview with Fox and explained exactly why the company needs to get back into the mobile market.

“We have to ultimately offer a smartphone because in many countries of the world that would be your first computing device,” Whitman said. “We are a computing company, we have to take advantage of that form factor.” It’s possible HP will resurrect webOS, although it will need to do a much better job at getting products to market before they’re already stale. As much as I loved webOS, maybe HP should team up with Microsoft and work on Windows Phone devices.
