And thus the evil of region locking still rears its head in this age of global connection. Not only will Capcom not be bringing their cel-shaded Lost Planet spin-off E.X. Troopers to the West, you won’t even have the option of importing it thanks to the 3DS’ region locking. Buying a Japanese 3DS is your only bet, and man, those are expensive!
Originally reported by NintendoLife after seeing it on an open question topic on Capcom’s official forums, Capcom’s Corporate Officer and Senior Vice-President Christian Svensson confirmed the game will not be making an official release in the west. A poster had questioned Svensson’s recnt quotes about Mega Man being ruined thanks to to many sub-series and wondered if that had any reason to E.X. Troopers not yet being announced. Svesson replied:
“No because EX Troopers isn’t part of the LP series officially (thus the difference in name) nor are there plans to bring it Westward at this time.”
It’s funny, though, because unlike Mega Man, where things only seemed to get worse and worse, E.X. Troopers looks far more fun than any of the dull and dreary Lost Planet titles. I mean, that dude alone (yes, it’s a dude) and his fabulous pink hair has more charm and uniqueness than the entire game of Lost Planet 2. Maybe Capcom should reconsider which game it hails as the sub-series.
E.X. Troopers will be launching for the 3Ds in Japan on November 22nd. Get in line if you’re not happy about skipping out on this one. Check out this sweet trailer to see what you are missing.
