Rumors are once again circulating that the iPhone 5 will be announced in Sept., and the iPad Mini will make its debut in Oct.
On Aug. 23 it was reported that Apple would be splitting the media events for the iPhone 5 and the iPad Mini into separate events. The first hint of this came from John Gruber of Daring Fireball who seemed to be merely thinking out loud, but then The Loop’s Jim Darlymple – who has a superb track record when it comes to outing Apple media events – said, “Oh that Gruber is a smart fellow.” This led many to believe that Apple was indeed set to hit us with a double whammy in the coming months.
Now adding to the speculation, AllThingsD, another source with an excellent track record in these matters, says it has confirmed these reports with its own sources.
Rumors of an iPad Mini have been circulating for ages, but were quashed for a time due to comments the late Steve Jobs made about smaller tablets not providing a rich enough user experience. Over the past year the talk of a 7.85-inch iPad Mini have kicked up again with supposed parts leaking out, and analysts saying it is indeed in production.
Considering the pedigree of the entities confirming this Oct. event, we wouldn’t say it is 100 percent fact yet, but it’s about as close as you can get.
