Microsoft’s new Office 2013 suite will only be available for Windows 7 and Windows 8-equipped PCs. According to The Verge, the company is dropping support for older machines running Windows XP or Vista, which basically encourages those still living in the early-mid 2000s to step into the future. Office 2013, which you can learn more about here, is expected to arrive in early 2013.
I don’t have any figures handy, but I’d guess that a lot of companies are still using Windows XP on older machines and rely on Office to get work done. Microsoft’s exclusion of these customers, who might not have the means to upgrade their machine(s), could potentially have adverse affects going forward, and might even open up a door or two for the competition, such as Google Docs, to step in.
