The tax deadline has been extended to April 17 this year. Those extra days will sure come in handy, but let’s face it — it’s not going to be fun. Take heart: You’re not alone, at least not if you have your trusty iPhone or Android at your side.

There are some well-established apps that can lend a big hand with e-filing, so check them out below, along with a couple of other handy, must-have applications.

TurboTax SnapTax (iOS/Android)
Did you know that you can file taxes right from your phone? If your financial situation is simple, and you’re just filing a 1040EZ for income under $100k, it just doesn’t get easier than this. Just snap a photo of your W-2, answer a few questions, and send that puppy out without booting up your computer or breaking a sweat. (Note that the app itself is free, but e-filing fees are $25 for federal and state.)

TaxACT Central (iOS/Android)
A lot of people use Taxact software to e-file, but whether you use it or not, there’s nothing stopping you from using this handy companion app. It offers a checklist to help you pull together all the documents you need to prep your taxes, plus it lets you check the status of your e-filed return.

Shoeboxed Receipt Tracker and Receipt Reader (iOS/Android)
One of the worst things about tax season is dealing with all those itty bitty bits of paper receipts. One stiff wind, and you’ve got confetti flying around you (and a nervous breakdown on the way). Don’t let this happen to you. Capture receipt images instead using your smartphone, and let the app wrangle the record-keeping for you.

H&R Block Mobile (iOS/Android)
Not into doing your own taxes (or need some hand-holding along the way)? This app can help you find a local branch of H&R Block and schedule an appointment, which can come in handy when you’re in a pinch.

MyTax Refund (iOS/Android)
Your taxes are done, and now you’re just waiting for the big ole refund to hit your mailbox or bank account. But you’re chomping at the bit waiting for that money (so, of course, you can then just hand it over to the local electronics store). If you used H&R Block, you can launch that app to find out your status. But what about if you did it yourself or hired someone else? That’s where MyTax Refund comes in. This app can settle your nerves, and let you know if it’s been accepted and when its on the way.

Have you done your taxes yet? Are you getting a fat refund? (And if so, let us know if you’re planning on making a juicy tech purchase with it!)
