Journey, the PlayStation 3 exclusive downloadable title from thatgamecompany, has officially become the fastest selling game on the PlayStation Network. The news comes as Jenova Chen, thatgamecompany’s Creative Director, posted the announcement and subsequent thank you to users on the PlayStation Blog.
We actually recorded and shared a video of us playing Journey before the game officially released to non-PlayStation Plus subscribers. In fact, that’s the video you see at the top of this post right now. We adore the game, and I’ll personally recommend it to every single person with a PlayStation 3 and a love for gaming as a medium.
Is it for everyone? Absolutely not. But, then again, the best works of narrative and experience aren’t always appealing to every single consumer on the face of the planet. Journey is a roughly three hour ride through the full gamut of emotions; you’ll want to explore, you’ll well up with emotion, you’ll be exceptionally happy and then you’ll be left wondering. The game is fantastic.
Chen took time to thank fans in the post, and he even shared a piece of art as a part of that overall “thank you” message. Here it is, for those interested.
Along with the news of this game’s exceptional selling pace, Chen also announced that the soundtrack will be made available in roughly two week’s time. Composed by Austin Wintory, the Journey soundtrack will launch on the PlayStation Store and iTunes on April 10th. It will also be available for a limited time in CD format shortly after its initial launch date.
