Update: Capcom has just confirmed, by way of press release, that Resident Evil 6 will launch on November 20th, 2012. The release also indicates that a PC version of the game will follow.

The release also included a link to the announcement trailer.

Original Story: IGN has a few shots from a GameStop retail location that looks to have stolen Capcom’s impending thunder. Resident Evil 6 is, apparently, coming on November 20th, 2012.

Capcom has a viral site that it’s been promoting lately. NoHopeLeft.com was recently updated with a 10 second video with the audio of a woman crying. The video ends with a date and a time: 14.00PST, 01.19.2012. That’s 2PM Pacific time, today.

While we won’t be certain until the countdown expires and whatever the site’s meant to do is performed, the poster to the right and the horror themes present on the viral page point towards the obvious: Resident Evil 6 is coming.

IGN goes further in their post on the news and indicate that sources have revealed to them that both franchise favorites Leon Kennedy and Chris Redfield will be playable characters in this game.

File this one under the “rumor” column for now, but it looks like GameStop may have just spoiled a bit of Capcom’s sequel announcing fun.

The artwork certainly does look official. And the poster is complete with platform logos that indicate this game will release for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles.

We’ll have more on this story, including what the countdown leads to, as it comes.
