A new iPad may hit store shelves in the next 3-4 months.
According to DigiTimes, Apple’s manufacturing partners have already started delivering parts for the next-generation iPad to OEM contractors, with plans to make 4-5 million units in the first quarter of 2012. Production is expected to ramp up in January (while iPad 2 production ramps down), with 9.5 million “iPad 3” tablets total being created during the first quarter of next year.
Apple traditionally launches new versions of the iPad in the spring months. The first iPad was announced in January and launched in April, and the iPad 2 was both announced and launched in March, Some analysts have suggested that Apple will release the iPad 3 in February, in order to coincide with Steve Jobs’ birthday (February 24).
Rumors about the iPad 3 have been pretty sparse. Many believe the tablet will have a retina display similar to the iPhone.
