BlackBerry World 2011 is coming to a close, and while a lot of news came out of the event, such as the announcement of the BlackBerry 9900/9300, there wasn’t a whole lot of news on the PlayBook front. While far from official, there were some mutterings around the conference that not only is a larger version of the tablet coming, but it could be out by the end of the year.
According to BGR, a second version of the PlayBook could be released as soon as the holidays of this year, making it well less than a year since the release of the original 7-inch version. The difference is that it wouldn’t really be a successor to the current model, but instead an entirely new one in the 10-inch range, putting it in on par with the iPad 2, Motorola Xoom and the Asus EEE Pad Transformer.
For the time being, this is all wild speculation with no firm confirmation. No other technical specifications have been mentioned other than the larger screen, but one has to suspect that the missing items on the current PlayBook (4G and an email client) would surely have to of been worked out by the time another version is released.
What do you think? Should RIM try for a second version of the PlayBook this soon?
