For quite a while there, it seemed like the white iPhone 4 was about as real a white unicorn. If you were among the hopefuls getting whiplash at the “will it”-“won’t it” launch scenario, it looks like your time is coming. In fact, if you’re in the UK, your time may almost be at hand: According to Engadget, Vodafone UK’s inventory control system finally lists the white Apple smartphone as en route.
The site procured some pics of a 16GB white iPhone 4 that was errantly sold in Britain. (Apparently after the “till,” or cash register, rang it up as a black iPhone, Voda swooped in to stop further sales of these until next week.)
Note the model number MC604B/A. It’s different from the MC603B/A code that’s on Engadget’s in-house black iPhone 4, also purchased in the UK. With one digit of difference (a “4” instead of a “3”), it’s plausible that the variation is due to the color option.
Of course, the UK may not be the only place to get a white iPhone soon. 9to5mac says the Netherlands will be getting theirs next week as well, on April 27th.
And what of the U.S. debut? We’re still waiting for word. [UPDATE: 9to5Mac pegs 4/27.] But by then, will it be too little, too late? (Isn’t it already?) Even if the iPhone 5’s fall launch rumor pans out, that’s still only five more months to go. And if it doesn’t — well, some poor souls will see their new phone become outdated within a mere month or two. (Historically, Apple has always announced/released their new iPhone models in June/July.)
Is there anyone out there planning on grabbing the white iPhone 4 anyway? Or at this point, will you bypass that for the 5? Let us know your plans in the comments below.
