Out with one wave of phone rumors, in with another. The intrepid sleuths at Pocketnow have unearthed a Bluetooth filing revealing what appears to be the long rumored Facebook phone. This Android powered social networking featurephone phone is described as the ‘INQ Cloud Touch:’
“INQ Cloud Touch is an Android smartphone built to make messaging faster and smarter. It’s designed around the way people naturally communicate and has Facebook built into its core. The homescreen features multiple entry points to different Facebook functions, while a dynamic widget displays a feed of status updates, albums, videos and photos.”
This is the first we’ve heard about the INQ Cloud Touch, which is a a pre-production codename, although rumors of INQ being involved are not new. Nothing else is known at this point, including what version of Android it’s running, if it will be skinned (presumably it will be, otherwise the Facebook integration will have to be through an app interface), carrier (AT&T is rumored), or release date. As usual, we’ll keep you posted.
The bigger question here is if a device that focuses on social networking is even necessary at this juncture? With 3rd party skins Like HTC’s Sense, and Motorola’s MotoBlur saturating the market with social prowess, who needs a Facebook phone? Last time I checked, I was able to use my mobile browser to hit up Facebook or use the dedicated application. I’ve certainty been proven wrong in the past, but Zuckerberg and friends better bring the heat if they want to play with the big boys.
What features would you need a Facebook phone to have to make you consider picking one up?
